1. Can you tell me a little about the organization?
The Women's East Bay (WEB) Hiking Group is an informal group of diverse women
who enjoy exploring the great outdoors and the fabulous natural resources
available here in the San Francisco East Bay and beyond. We are led by Lu Lothrop of Alameda, who lends a wealth of expertise
and limitless enthusiasm to the group. The Women's East Bay Hiking Group was
established in 1996 and has been actively and regularly hiking since then.
Women of all ages and levels of hiking
experience are encouraged to join us for fun, fellowship, and fitness. You may
drop-in or become a Women’s East Bay Hiking Group member. Membership is
a great option with lots of benefits, but is
not required.
2. I'm interested in joining, what do I do?
You will need to register. Once we have reviewed and accepted
your registration we will contact you with additional information (as well as
provide you with exclusive online Member Only content).
3. What are the membership dues?
Membership is $75.00 annually.
4. Why should I pay to hike?
This is a regular, convenient, safe and social group that offers many benefits. You will be motivated
to get out and explore the beautiful, extensive resources of the San Francisco Bay
area. Hiking is a healthy activity and the cost is less than going to see a
movie, especially a movie with popcorn.
5. Will I be able to keep up?
Absolutely! Regardless of level we is a supportive group and hikers
are encouraged on hills, creek crossings, long hikes, hot hikes and whenever
needed. Level 1 hikes always take a leisurely pace and the emphasis
is on companionship, support and the well being of everyone. If a level does not match your skill
you are always welcome to switch to one that is best for you.
6. What should I wear?
Thankfully hiking is not a fashion show so dress for comfort. Learn more
in our What to Wear and Bring section.
7. Where do you hike?
Weekday hikes are usually in the East Bay 20 to 30 minutes from Alameda:
Regional Parks, open Spaces, Greenbelt and EBMUD lands and a few city parks.
Saturday hikes explore the vast areas across the Bay.
8. What ages are included?
This is a diverse group where age is not important. The group currently ranges from 18 to 79 (with a majority in the 45 to 65 range).
9. Do you hike in all weather?
Yes. Check the site or your email 30 minutes prior to departure time for cancellation status if it is heavily raining or storming.
10. What is the difference between hiking and walking?
Hiking usually incorporates hills that require cardio and leg strength and uneven terrain
requiring balance and causing some all-body muscle tension.
