Lu Lothrop

Founder and Hike Leader
Send Lu an E-mail

Lu is self taught naturalist and has been an outdoor enthusiast all her life. She has been hiking, camping, running, skiing and bicycling throughout her child and adulthood, primarily in her native state of Oregon, prior to her move to California in 1990. Living in the Bay Area, it is fascinating to find the secluded forests of the East Bay Regional Parks only 20 to 30 minutes from everyone's doorstep! The parks offer such an opportunity for outdoor recreation and she has been hiking or biking in most of the 50 parks within the East Bay system.

Prior to her "hike consultant and coordinating" career Lu spent 10 years as a teacher and then 10 years with a large corporation in sales management. Coupled with her work world, was raising and running after her two very energetic sons, which has certainly contributed to her stamina and high energy level.

Health and fitness has always been a priority to for Lu. She is not at all fond of stationary exercise, so she must find ways to move around in the outdoors to help remain heart healthy, in shape and exercised. Hiking is definitely one of her favorites because while exercising, she is also inspired by the incredible natural beauty, renewed by the peacefulness and feel as if she's been on a "getaway" from the city-life.

Lu has taken a first-aid course and CPR training. She considers it her responsibility to see that no one in the group is hiking beyond their fitness level. She also takes responsibility for clear and simple directions to hike locations as well as taking each group on interesting, out-of-the-ordinary and appropriate trails.
